Introduction
Europe is the most popular tourist destination in the world, and for good reason. The continent has a rich history and a diverse culture. You can explore historic cities, majestic castles, museums and art galleries, ancient ruins, quaint villages…the list goes on! Europe has something for everyone—and I mean that literally. With so many unique places to visit all over the continent, you might wonder where you should go first. Here are my top five recommendations:
London
London is a great city to visit. It has a lot of history and landmarks, like Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. There are also many museums in London, such as the National Gallery or Tate Modern Art Gallery. The city is also home to some of the world’s best restaurants, so if you’re looking for places where you can eat out during your trip then this should be on your list!
Rome
Rome is the capital of Italy and its most popular tourist destination. Since its founding in 753 BC, Rome has been a center of Western civilization. The city was founded as a small village around 500 BC by Romulus and Remus, two brothers who were abandoned as infants in the river Tiber by their parents, who were believed to be divine beings (Zeus and Latona).
Rome became an empire that conquered most of Europe and Africa during its height from 27 BC to 1453 AD; it also had significant influence over much of Asia Minor during this period. After suffering several invasions from Germanic tribes such as Goths and Vandals along with internal civil wars caused by conflict between emperors fighting over control of the throne after Constantine I died without appointing an heir in 337 AD., Theodosius I declared himself sole emperor which ended any remaining pretense at republicanism within Rome’s borders; however despite these setbacks Romans remained resilient throughout these trying times until they eventually recovered enough strength under Justinian I (527-565) who reconquered lost territories such as Italy while also expanding into North Africa
Paris
Paris is known for its iconic landmarks and monuments. The city has the Eiffel Tower, which was built in 1889 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution; The Louvre, one of the largest museums in the world; Arc de Triomphe, an obelisk honoring those who died during war; Champs Elysées (literally translated as “Fields of Paradise”), a tree-lined avenue that extends from Place de la Concorde to Les Invalides; Notre Dame cathedral (also known as Our Lady), one of Europe’s most famous churches with its Gothic architecture
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a city in the Netherlands. It’s known for its canals and bicycles, museums, art galleries and nightlife. Amsterdam was founded in 1275 by fishermen who built a dam across a river delta to create an artificial inland lake called “Merelveen”. In 1389 it was granted city rights by Louis IV of Bavaria, who ruled Holland at the time. The population grew from 5,000 people in 1428 to 50,000 by 1578 due to its trade with Flanders (Belgium)
Barcelona
Barcelona is a beautiful city with a lot of culture, history and food. It’s also one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Europe.
Prague
You could spend days exploring Prague and still not see everything. The city has a rich history, but it’s also full of restaurants, bars and museums that will leave you wanting more time in this beautiful European destination.
Prague is known for being one of the most affordable cities to visit in Europe–and we don’t mean just for Americans! You can get by on less than $30 USD per day if you’re staying at an Airbnb or hostel and eating at local restaurants instead of splurging on pricey tourist traps (which are still delicious). There are many things to do in Prague: go touring around Charles Bridge; take advantage of cheap admission prices at places like National Museum or Jewish Museum; sip some beer while admiring architecture from atop Petrin Hill; see a show at Estates Theatre…the list goes on!
Vienna
Vienna is the capital of Austria, and it’s a city of culture and music. There are many museums and galleries here, including Schonbrunn Palace Museum which houses royal apartments on its grounds. The city has also been home to some of the world’s greatest composers such as Mozart and Beethoven; visit their graves at St. Marx Cemetery or listen to their works at Vienna State Opera House where you can catch an opera performance or concert if you’re lucky!
Vienna has plenty of green spaces for you to enjoy your time outdoors when it’s not raining (which hardly ever happens). Some popular parks include Prater Park–home to amusement park rides like bumper cars–and Donaupark which offers dining options along with beautiful scenery year round thanks for great weather conditions! If you want something more relaxing than sitting around reading books all day then check out one of these beautiful gardens like Schloss Schonbrunn Palace Garden where visitors can take guided tours through this historic site while enjoying breathtaking views from various vantage points throughout different seasons throughout year long period duelling between springtime blooms versus summertime lush foliage growth patterns against autumnal colors fading away into winter months when everything seems grayish brownish tone duelling between white snowflakes falling down upon bare trees branches reaching upwards towards sky high above ground level plane
Berlin
Berlin is a great city to visit. It’s the capital of Germany, and it has a very cosmopolitan feel to it. Berlin is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. There are many landmarks here, including Brandenburg Gate and Victory Column (Siegessaeule). If you’re looking for museums, don’t miss out on Museum Island or Gemaldegalerie Neue Meister!
